Conference Objectives:

Upon completion of this conference, the participant will be able to:

  • Recognize Genitourinary Syndrome of Menopause (GSM: previously called vulvovaginal atrophy or VVA) and its impact on quality of life while applying evidence-based hormonal and non-hormonal treatment options
  • Advise overweight patients with Co-morbidities and obese women on successful weight loss strategies beyond simple diet and exercise including use of latest available pharmaceuticals (i.e. glucose-dependent insulinotropic polypeptide (GIP) receptor agonists; glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1) receptor agonist)
  • Learn new approaches for how to better protect the female patient’s skeletal health after menopause including the safe use of antiresorptive (i.e denosumab) and anabolic agents (i.e romosozumab).
  • Understand the nuances of diagnosing, preventing and treating migraine headache including use of the triptans and CGRP antagonists, and what the gynecologist can, and should do.
  • Gain confidence in how to
  • Gain confidence in adhering to guidelines for breast cancer screening with 3D mammography and appropriate risk based additional screening protocols to put you and your patient at ease.
  • Become familiar with new and upcoming methods of contraception, potential benefits and risks compared to existing methods focusing on data not hype.
  • Evaluate abnormal bleeding and distinguish disease states originating in the endometrium and myometrium
  • Adopt a holistic approach to treating overactive bladder and develop strategies for assessment, diagnosis, and treatment of pelvic floor dysfunction, including surgical and non-surgical options
  • Understand what appears to be an epidemic of miscarriage, and how to explain it to patients as well as treat it
  • Add new competencies for managing menopausal vasomotor symptoms (hot flashes, hot flushes, and night sweats), using both hormonal and non-hormonal approaches, while separating fact from fiction
  • Differentiate between situational low sexual desire and hypoactive sexual desire disorder (HSDD), and appreciate how to improve both by engaging evidence-based diagnostics and treatments
  • Appreciate the complexities and nuances of vulvovaginitis, including the causal conditions, and derive an appropriate differential diagnosis for acute and chronic conditions with the concomitant evidence-based treatment plan
  • Understand the new guidelines for cervical cancer screening, management of abnormal cervical cytology, applying the new guidelines – including recommended practice management algorithms (with and without human papilloma virus testing) – into clinical decision making
  • Differentiate the physiological actions of estrogens from androgens, implementing evidence-based androgen replacement paradigms for improved general health and sexual function
